INTERACTIVE TOUR WITH THE SMARTPHONE APP ACTIONBOUND THROUGH THE ART EXHIBITION OF THE SCIENCE + FICTION FESTIVAL 2019

Science + Fiction Festival

The Science + Fiction Festival can be characterized as a knowledge festival, which tries to provide access to a topic from different perspectives. This includes presentations, discussions, workshops, film screenings, readings, pub quiz, concerts and an art exhibition. This year's edition was devoted to the theme of time in the rooms of the Sommercasino Basel (SoCa) during three days.

The art exhibition of the Science + Fiction Festival contained six art positions, which thematized time from different perspectives (stress, time in everyday life, predictions of the future, past / dreaming, time capsuled, making time visible) with a multitude of creative possibilities (audio, video installations, 3 dimensional works).

Interactive Tour

David Bregenzer, Juan Dietz, Laura Jäckle, Katja Meile and I decided to create an interactive tour through the exhibition with the smartphone application Actionbound, actually an app for creating scavenger hunts. For each work of art, as well as for selected locations in and around the building, sections were designed which could be freely selected an not played through linearly. Each section contained the intention to lead the visitors first to the place, to give offers for a sensual appreciation of the found objects and then to receive questions and/or requests on the subject of subjective perception of time in the expanded context of the artwork. It was important for us to plan the attention of the visitors. For this purpose we conceived requests and suggestions, which consciously include a direct sensual appropriation of the art exhibition. In addition to the digital design possibilities of the smartphone (text, imagine, sound, video), analogue design possibilities such as a sketchbook and small cards, as well as objects such as a fortune cookie box or a tie capsule were placed in the exhibition and thus integrated into the tour. The tour could be carried out during the entire duration of the festival; at times communicated, the mediation team was on site for support and exchange.
